Established in 2000 and located along a 2km long illuminated walk route through the city centre, Brussels has a modern Christmas market with a strong green policy. There is a Sound and Light show at the Grand Place UNESCO World Heritage site, an ice rink, ferris wheel, nostalgic roundabouts for children, concerts and marching bands.
Set in the beautiful setting of Place Sainte Catherine , the Brussels Christmas market - called Winter Wonders - is bursting with continental atmosphere and quaint wooden chalets offering an array of festive delights.
As described by their tourist office: "Brussels itself has a multicoloured heritage of the most diverse styles, a contagious creativity tinged with surrealism and humour, a sociable and epicurean art de vivre. Order of the day: fashion and design, comic strip, chocolate, beer, music and surrealism, sociability and more than 100 museums, and a whole constellation of hotels."
