The Grote Markt (Market Square) in Antwerp is transformed into a wonderful Christmas market each season - packed with stalls where you can stock up on Christmas decorations, stocking fillers and local food. It also boasts a Christmas village and ice rink from around the first week in December.

For even more shops visit the undercover Grand Bazaar and Stadsfeestzaal shopping centres in the city centre. The city's historic dance hall (Stadsfeestzaaal) has been renovated and is worth seeing.

If you have time to spare, the Antwerp tourist board lists these four attractions as the must-sees of the city: Cathdral of Our Lady , Rubens House , MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) and Museum Plantin-Moretus/Prints Room.
